Skilled Construction Workers are in Demand

The construction industry is on an upward trend in terms of both growth and jobs. Unfortunately, there are just not enough skilled workers to meet the high demand.

In an attempt to meet this demand, companies are increasing wages across the board. The average increase for both onsite trade workers and office workers was 5.3 percent this past year. Despite this, contractors are still coming up short when it comes to hiring.

To illustrate, in 2023 there were 374,000 construction jobs added but only 227,000 positions filled. To combat this, the Associated General Contractors of America is calling for government action.

AGC officials are asking for an increase in high school level training and education in the construction industry. Currently, not enough schools are offering these programs. Additionally, they are asking that lawful entry for people into the country be expanded in order to meet the demand.

What does this mean? For one thing, there hasn’t been a better time to join the construction industry! Licensed electricians are in demand across the country. Stable work, great pay and benefits, and no college debt – what more could you want?
